New Moon Altar Making Workshop

Monday October 20th, 6-8pm

Join me for a new moon altar making workshop on Monday, October 20th from 6-8pm. I’ll bring wood bases of various sizes, candles, plants, stones, and lots of bits and bobs you can use to make an altar of your own design, which you can have sit flat or hang on the wall. You’re invited to bring any meaningful objects or pieces of nature to add. We’ll do some reflecting and share about what we’re inviting to grow in ourselves and our lives during this season, and about what might feel in the way. It’s a great time to connect inward while “the veils are thin” and we retreat into the cold season. We won’t just be making a pretty thing or doing a craft—we’ll be sinking into what wants to be known inside of us and making a powerful choice to bring that into physical form. This workshop approaches the spiritual in the broadest sense, where we listen for what brings us meaning, peace, and fulfillment, no religious beliefs needed and all spiritual orientations welcomed.

The wood bases come from an oak tree that fell by my house during Helene. One day I felt compelled to chainsaw a bunch of slices off the trunk and spent a chunk of the day sanding both sides of the slices until blissfully smooth and sealing them with Danish Oil. Later Rory (he’s 5) and I dug up treasures from our rooms and found pine cones and acorns in the yard (and pieces of a broken mirror we found by the old chicken coop), and made little works of art on the wood. Sharing this activity with my community feels like sharing something personal, a small and sacred thing from my inner child to yours. Hope you can make it.

Details: Monday, October 20, 6-8pm at my office (68 Grove St., Asheville). Cost range $30-50.
